UnionsACT is the peak body for trade unions in Canberra and the region. We represent 24 unions and over 30,000 union members. We are an affiliate member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), Our aim is to link workers with their appropriate trade union. We facilitate contact with and between different unions and other organisations such as government, lobby groups, political parties, community groups and others interested in protecting worker’s rights at work. Occupational Health and Safety is a huge and expensive problem throughout Australia. The minimum estimated annual cost to the country for workplace injuries, death and disease is more than $20,000,000.00
There is significant legislation dealing with OH&S in the workplace. A critical aspect to this is the obligation of employers to ensure their workplace complies with the legislation and that they have a properly trained employee representative.

On Friday 26th June, Protesters converged on the Iranian Embassy in Canberra to rally for the right to free and fair democratic elections in Iran. Kim Sattler, the Secretary of UnionsACT, spoke at the rally. Many of our affiliates, including the AEU, the AWU and the CFMEU were there to support our Iranian comrades.
