It is no simply a matter of some quick in history that the working lives of coal miners has been recorded in art, literature and music more than the working lives of cost accountants. This is not disrespectful to the latter, it is simply the fact that coal mining over the centuries has built a culture capturing the trials and tribulations of the work, it is a culture that epxresses the nature of the work, highlighting the highs and lows, the camaraderie; it is a culture that is passed across generations. As such, Art in Working Life is an essential aspect to the union movement. Unions ACT has an active committee focusing on all aspects of art and work, whether it is that of cleaners in hospitals, May Day, or staging exhibitions of local working artists.
